Art Show & Creative Contest

2008 Entry Form

Celebrating the Art Talents of South Dakotans Age 60+ 
                                                                                                                                                                                                                   
Sponsored by South Dakota Health Care Association, Home Federal Bank, and KELOLAND TV.

The event is open to every citizen of South Dakota who is age 60 and older. The SDHCA Dakota MasterWorks show will take place:

Monday, October 27th 3PM-7PM, Awards ceremony at 7PM
Tuesday, October 28th 11AM-2PM
Good Samaritan Society, Sioux Falls, SD

AGE DIVISIONS:

Experienced: age 60-79
Masters: 80 Plus

CREATIVE CATEGORIES:
First, second, and third place cash awards will be given in each category. In addition, judges will select a Best of Show. The public will also be invited to vote for the People's Choice award that will also be presented following the show. Categories and entry specifications are:

  • Painting (acrylic) Size limited to 30"x45"
  • Painting (watercolor) Size limited to 30"x45"
  • Painting (oil) Size limited to 30"x45"
  • Drawing/Pastels Size limited to 30"x45"
  • Photography (black and white or color) Size limited to 30"x45"
  • Sculpture & Woodcarving Limited to 2'x2' in size. For larger objects, a color photo may be substituted.  Weight limit 75 lbs. per entry.

Entries and artists may be featured in future SDHCA Dakota MasterWorks promotional materials and products. Therefore, all entries will require a release authorizing SDHCA Dakota MasterWorks or it's assignees to utilize a reproduction of winning entries and an artist profile in promotional literature and materials.

ENTRY CRITERIA:
$15.00 per entry is due upon entry to cover insurance and handling fees. No more than two entries per artist may be submitted. The entry must have been completed within the last three years. No pieces entered previously may be reenterd. No nude works of art will be accepted for this competition. No commercially mass-produced items, including kit assembled products.

JUDGING:
Judging will take place in Sioux Falls prior to the exhibit. Judges are appointed based on their talent and expertise. Awards categories are:

  • Best of Show
  • First through third place in each age division and creative category
  • People's Choice Award will be based on votes of those attending all exhibitions

AWARDS:
The first place winners in each category shall receive a check for $75, second place $50 and third $25. The Best of Show and People's Choice shall receive an award of $100.

ENTRY AND RELEASE:
All entries, along with an entry form, will be accepted Monday-Friday, 9AM-3PM, September 29 - October 7, 2008 only. Deliver entries to SDHCA Dakota MasterWorks. Entries must include a brief biographical profile and a release authorizing the SDHCA to reproduce any winning entry for promotional purposes without compensation to the artist. The release form must be submitted with the entry and be on file prior to judging.

NOTE:
All paintings, drawings, pastels and photographs must be framed and ready for display.

All non-winning entries are to be picked up within 30 days of the Sioux Falls show. Items not retrieved in 30 days following the show will be considered abandoned.
